The organ trade is booming in Romania - most of the buyers are rich foreigners. Trade in organs is officially banned, but business is flourishing. For many Romanians, selling a kidney is a way to survive. Police are at a loss to know how to deal with a situation that sometimes even results in the death of an organ recipient after the transplant,if the organ has not been properly removed. Donors are also putting themselves at risk, often the medical aftercare is insufficient.
